An apartment (in American and Canadian English) or a flat (in British English) is a self-contained housing unit (a type of residential real estate) that occupies only part of a building, correctly, on a single level without a stair. Such a building may be called an apartment building, apartment complex (in American English), apartment house (in American English), block of flats, tower block, high-rise or, occasionally mansion block (in British English), especially if it consists of many apartments for rent. In Scotland it is called a block of flats or, if it's a traditional sandstone building, a tenement, which has a pejorative connotation elsewhere. Apartments may be owned by an owner/occupier, by leasehold tenure or rented by tenants (two types of housing tenure).
The term apartment is favoured in North America (although flat is used in the case of a unit which is part of a house containing two or three units, typically one to a floor) and also is the preferred term in Ireland. In the UK, the term apartment is more usual in professional real estate and architectural circles where otherwise the term flat is commonly, but not exclusively, for an apartment without a stair (hence a 'flat' apartment). Technically multi-storey apartments are referred to as 'duplex' (or 'triplex') indicating the number of floors within the property. Usage generally follows the British in Singapore, Hong Kong and most Commonwealth nations.
Apartment was an English four-piece alternative rock band from London. They formed in 2005 and were signed to Filthy Lucre and Fleet Street Records. The band toured with The Bravery, Delays, Editors, Jimmy Eat World and British Sea Power amongst others. They also appeared on a co-headline tour of France with The Kooks. They shared many stages with fellow East-Londoners Boy Kill Boy. They released their debut album, The Dreamer Evasive, in 2007. The song from the album "Fall Into Place" was also selected to be featured in the game FIFA 08, as well as in the first season episode of Chuck, "Chuck Versus the Wookiee".
Apartment consisted of David Caggiari on vocals, guitar and keyboards; Thomas Gillet on bass; Liam Fletcher on drums; and Davide De Santis on guitar. The band came together in Bethnal Green in east London, sharing loves of influential acts like Blonde Redhead, Velvet Underground, Jeff Buckley, David Bowie, The Associates and Bruce Springsteen. Apartment released two early singles on Fierce Panda, "Everyone Says I'm Paranoid"/"June July" and "Patience Is Proving". After these limited releases, the band recorded their debut album The Dreamer Evasive, as well as setting up Fleet Street Records.
"Apartment" is a song by American alternative rock band Young the Giant from their 2010 self-titled debut album. Written by the band and released as a single in 2012, it peaked at number 26 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart. Two music videos for "Apartment" were filmed, and the song was remixed in 2011 by Captain Cuts.
Released in February 2012, "Apartment" peaked at number 26 on Billboard's Alternative Songs chart.Consequence of Sound's Caitlin Meyer described the song as "a seemingly average track that quickly crescendos into an impressive showcase of Gadhia’s vocal range." Chris White of musicOMH called it "an instantly infectious slice of quintessentially American alternative rock." In 2011, Young the Giant performed the song on Jimmy Kimmel Live! (January), on Later... with Jools Holland (May), and on MTV's Unplugged: Young the Giant, which began streaming online in November. A remixed version of the song by Captain Cuts appeared on Young the Giant's Remix EP, released in 2011.

In information security, computer security and network security an Asset is any data, device, or other component of the environment that supports information-related activities. Assets generally include hardware (e.g. servers and switches), software (e.g. mission critical applications and support systems) and confidential information. Assets should be protected from illicit access, use, disclosure, alteration, destruction, and/or theft, resulting in loss to the organization.
The goal of Information Security is to ensure the Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability of assets from various threats. For example, a hacker might attack a system in order to steal credit card numbers by exploiting a vulnerability. Information Security experts must assess the likely impact of an attack and employ appropriate countermeasures. In this case they might put up a firewall and encrypt their credit card numbers.
When performing risk analysis it is important to weigh how much to spend protecting each asset against the cost of losing the asset. It is also important to take into account the chance of each loss occurring. Intangible costs must also be factored in. If a hacker makes a copy of all a company's credit card numbers it does not cost them anything directly but the loss in fines and reputation can be enormous.
An 'asset' in economic theory is an output good which can only be partially consumed (like a portable music player) or input as a factor of production (like a cement mixer) which can only be partially used up in production. The necessary quality for an asset is that value remains after the period of analysis so it can be used as a store of value. As such, financial instruments like corporate bonds and common stocks are assets because they store value for the next period. If the good or factor is used up before the next period, there would be nothing upon which to place a value.
As a result of this definition, assets only have positive futures prices. This is analogous to the distinction between consumer durables and non-durables. Durables last more than one year. A classic durable is an automobile. A classic non-durable is an apple, which is eaten and lasts less than one year. Assets are that category of output which economic theory places prices upon. In a simple Walrasian equilibrium model, there is but a single period and all items have prices. In a multi-period equilibrium model, while all items have prices in the current period. Only assets can survive into the next period and thus only assets can store value and as a result, only assets have a price today for delivery tomorrow. Items which depreciate 100% by tomorrow have no price for delivery tomorrow because by tomorrow it ceases to exist.
